  • First of all this post is in no way intended to tell the WPT when to schedule the AC Championship - it's completely their decision and I respect whatever conclusion they come to.

That said, I just realized the two main days of the event are on a Monday and a Tuesday. For out of towners, thrown in Wednesday to get back home and you are looking at 3 vacation days. Personally, that is a lot for me and I likely won't be making the trip purely based on the amount of vacation days I would need to take.

I realize scheduling the event on a weekend would undoubtedly increase the cost of the event, but I would much rather pay an extra $100 ($200 per team) to have the event on a weekend.

Is anyone else in the same boat??? Are there other teams that can't make it because of scheduling?

  • I agree with Piotr, def would rather pay more money to have it on the weekend, it just makes more sense, also it will encourage more west coast teams to make the trip out and make the tournament that much better.

although i am still in college and dont have a job, I can see many people not being able to take it off because it is on a monday and a tuesday.

  • Where ever and whenver you have it people are gonna have schedule problems. I had to take 2 days off coming from the east coast going to vegas so whats one extra day.

I may be in a different situation b/c I have 22 days of vacation per year but lets be honest whats one extra day people.

It is not just one extra day to recreational players and the majority of the non east coast teams.  Day of travel is included in there.  I am willing to bet they lose a ton of money on teams not attending that would have come versus the amount they are saving by doing it on a weekday.

Plus, as they are trying to establish themselves as more than Bpong's little brother (and I think they are well on their way to doing so), this sets them back and makes it look like they are taking a step backwards when it comes to large scale events

  • I also agree with Piotr. I didnt have a partner last year but went anyways to cheer on our MD teams. This year I planned on actually playing, whether in Vegas or AC, expecting it to be on a weekend. But now that it is during the week, I won't be able to take off work to end.  There is now a 20% chance I can actually go now. I wasn't going to say anything because I thought I was the only one and dont expect anything to be changed for one person. But it makes it very hard when it requires 2-3 days off.

  • In the end it's going to come down to a business decision. Pong companies are businesses and they aim to make a profit. I honestly hope companies like Bpong and the WPT make a shit ton of money - it's just a sign the game is going in the right direction.

I think an important legacy of the first AC Championship is that in the eyes of the players, it was a successful event the first time around. Good word of mouth certainly eased concerns any non east coasters may have had about the first event. I just hope scheduling doesn't significantly decrease the number of teams that make the trip this time around. I'm guessing locals would also be more likely to participate on a weekend.

So I guess the question is, would the additional revenue generated from increased participation on the weekend cover the higher costs? I'm not going to pretend like I have the answer, but I'm sure if the beer pong community spoke out on the matter, it would help the WPT and in turn help pong as a whole.
