    what is pongleague?

PongLeague is a tournament company from SoCal.  We run about 80 tournaments a year right now in different states.  We threw a 5k tourney last June that went well, and are announcing the details on a 25k singles tournament soon ( we are just in limbo for hotel accommodations).  Our site is a beta social networking site for beer pong players. Check it out.

the beast is always legit..the original was run by me last year on long island which was won by maryland..they actually took 1st and 2nd place..the last one was september in philly and long island won..they were completely different run tourneys but both awesome none the less..its only gunna grow from here..the next beast is scheduled for spring on long island..the first was i beleive and correct me if im wrong md guys; 2000 total?? and the philadelphia one was $3200?

    defo,

I paid out $3600 to the winning team.  With 16 players, it turned out to be $225 per person.

16 players? Or 16 teams? And that was all that signed up for a $3600 tourney? Damn, you could probably increase attendance with better marketing.  I mean, I run PongLeague and I'm into whats goin' on in the Beer Pong industry all the time and I never even heard about it.

Sorry, it must not have been legit if Pongleague didn't know about it! After all, pongleague IS the league where all the pong happens. It wasn't our intentions to market a Beast of the East tourney to your west coast company, our bad. However, if you were "involved with the industry" as much as you say you are, you can find hundreds of posts in regards to the setting up and running of this event. I think it was a great success, and a great time, probably because people like yourself werent involved trying to dip your hand in the pot and take cash out of it. You know nothing about it and are going to be quick to hate?? The BEST players from the East Coast all attended this event, and it was run smoothly by Mike V, maybe you guys should hire him.

You'll gain NO legitimacy on here with me or many other players with idiotic statement like some of the ones you've been making. Telling us we could have made beast of the east bigger and better with better marketing? lol YOU didnt hear about it so it must not have been official! Have fun trying to make money off pong, your 25K tourn sounds like a flop in the making.

Damn. Apparently you took that the wrong way.  I never meant to say it could have been bigger or better than what it was.  I'm glad it was a success. I just didn't hear about it.  And as far as hundreds of posts, we don't spend much time on bpong forums for the simply fact that we were discouraged early on when even the most harmless posts were getting automatically deleted.

As far as dipping our hand into the pot, we've been around for years making other products in the industry.  We haven't profited a single dime from this league.  In fact, we've spent more money making it was it is than we even saw in return.

That statement about marketing was not meant to be harmful in anyway.  If you see the earlier part of that post, you would see I was asking if there were 16 teams for that amount of cash.  Wouldn't you say the same thing if you heard about a $3,600 and 16 teams @ $225 a team?  We all know that if that were the case then the event should have been marketed better, right? But that wasn't the case. I never would have said that if I knew how many teams were involved.  It was a question.

Great name of the tourney btw.

If you read that correctly, it says i paid out $3600 to the winning team that consisted of 16 players.  As far as the tournament as a whole was concerned, there were 5 teams of 16 players each for a total of 80 of the "best" on the east coast.  The Beast of the East was discussed AT LENGTH on these forums over the course of about 6 weeks this past summer.  I find it difficult to believe anyone "into what's goin' on in the Beer Pong industry all the time" would not have heard about it.

Someone mentioned that the event was invite only.  This was partially true.  Anyone could form a team of 16 players and enter the tournament.  The only thing i asked was that the teams be full and money paid.

    As far as marketing goes:
I think getting 80 people together for a tournament without having online signups or a website to work off of isn't too bad.  There was the potential for more teams. Maryland could have brought 2 teams but wanted to give themselves the best chance of winning.  Long Island was in a similar situation.  Even the Midwest was going to field a team but the Midwest team ended up dropping out because flights just weren't feasible.  Had the payout been a little more they might have been able to justify it.

The point of the Beast of the East was not to have a giant payout for a tournament.  It was to see which region was the best overall.  I know i speak for some when i say that it almost didnt matter that there was money on the line.  Pure competition and bragging rights alone were/are well worth it.

  • Guess I read it wrong.

Anyway, here's the thing.  I do web design as a side business.  If you need anything, I can hook it up for little to no cost.  Get the domain and lets build you a site.

And you're right, I took a break from everything because I went back to pro baseball.  Shit takes a lot of time.  Now that i got released from injury, I'll have a lot more time devoted to Beer Pong.

You're also right about the payout not being the sole purpose behind playing in the tournament.  That's why we are doing a singles tournament, to find out who is the best, aka, the King of the Cups. The only reason the payout is so large is because we need to entice people to come out West.

Thats not true at all Mike, I'd bet that Sachi and Tristan will be able to make it out in place of the Socal Open.
