don't think labor day weekend is a very good idea....the socal open Im guessing will be run durring that time again next year....don't really want to compete with them you will not win.

Thats not true at all Mike, I'd bet that Sachi and Tristan will be able to make it out in place of the Socal Open.

I wouldn't say PongLeague wins if Sachi and Tristan show up. lol, but they were smart to go win their satellites in SD.

Their 5k tourney that Peter and his partner won was actually a lot of fun, I hope they run another bigger cash tourney, maybe a 2 day weekend event on a weekend that Peter doesn't run his.

  • Well here's the thing.  We are pushing to have the event run with the WS next year if we can, it just makes too much sense.  However, if we cannot get them to agree, then we have to find another dat.e  Given the current time frame and the amount of money at stake, we need to set up enough qualifiers and such to cover the majority of the payout.  Our only option after the WPT backed out is to push it back a little.  The next and only real date that makes sense is Labor Day weekend.  Now, we realize that the open was on that weekend last year, so the next best option would be to run the KOTC and the Open on the same weekends and dates dates to cut costs for everyone.  This way, everyone who was going to fly out can be in both events for a total of, well, im guessing about 35k throughout the weekend.  It would be a blast.

We're waiting to see what bpong says first.  However, I've already emailed Peter a couple times and put in a call.  I'm waiting for their response.  The last thing we want to do is step on anyone's toes, but lets face it, it would make too much sense to work together.

  • I know this years Beast of the East drug out a little longer then we would have liked it and the place could have been a little bigger ( Fucking regae band blew that )
However that was by far the funnest tournament I have ever played in.  I loved the whole "Team" concept.  I enjoyed playing with several diffrent partners as well.
Hopefully the general format stays the same next year and just tweek the opening rounds a bit so its not so drug out.

  • I have to say, I agree with Mike V. and Kessler. I flew up from Florida, got a hotel, plus drinks and food, buy in, ect ect, I spent around 425 dollars. The reason I went, and would go again, was to compete as team, and play against the best players on the east coast. In my opinion, it was a great experience, and we don't have as many players of that caliber down here in Florida. I think most who attended would agree, that most of the players there make enough money during the course of the year playing beer pong, that for one day we could all get together and have it be about true team competition. The way it worked out, with two playoffs and the comeback Long Island had against New Jersey, I don't think the tournament could have went any better than it did. The space was cramped, sure, but everyone will find something to bitch about in the end. For me I thought it was a great experience

  • I dont really think there will be a better turnout if its held in NY just for the reason that your not gonna want to water down any of your teams.  Sure LI and NY could prob both get 2 teams each but are they really gonna want to?  I would think not.  MD has over 200 some players that play in the tournamnents league etc however they are only gonna bring 1 team ( their 16 best )

I also believe a major complaint is gonna come from the MD guys which I can understand the reasoning.  Driving 2 hours is a lot easier then having to drive 4 hours from MD to NY or vice versa.
I also know that since you guys won it this year you were supposed to host it however again MD will argue that they won it 2 years ago and still had to travel.

If we have it again in Philly I can make sure we are the only thing going on that day.  Last one we waited to the last possible moment to confirm the day and Mcfaddens already had the band booked.

I wouldn't care about doing it in Philly, it was a good time. If it makes it easier for the MD guys then thats cool. Its just an excuse to get cheesesteaks and sing the Fresh Prince theme song on the way thru Philly
