  • Mike and I are going to do the drawings for the two divisions within the next week or so. We have some other details to take care of first.  Mike is/has sent out an email to all the captains today to get tshirt sizes for everyone who wants to get BOE keep-sake tshirts.  It will have the BOE 2010 logo on the front and we are deciding on a design for the back of the shirts.  Mike is also asking the captains for any roster changes and the final rosters, along with email addresses for every player so we can inform everyone as a whole rather than just the captains of details closer to the event.

Once we have the finalized rosters, we will do the drawing over ustream so everyone can watch.  We will put all 16 squads in a hat and alternate picks into the two divisions.

Once the divisions are set, we will randomly assign each player on each squad a number 1-10.

The pairings will then be as following:
for round 1 of the prelims,
all player 1's will play with player 2's
all player 3's will play with player 10's
all player 4's will play with player 9's
all player 5's will play with player 8's
all player 6's will play with player 7's

we will then randomly assign each pairing a number 1-5

and then pairing 1 from squad A will play pairing 1 from squad B
pairing 2 from squad A will play pairing 2 from squad B
    etc

then in the 2nd round of the round robin prelims
the partner pairings will continue off this format:  http://www.printyourbrackets.com/10team … print.html

and we will continue this pairing scheme for all 7 rounds of the prelims, with the pairings being randomly assigned a number 1-5 in each round of the prelims.

every time a pairing  wins a game, we will give that squad 1 pt and also mark down the cup diff. of that game.

then the top 2 squads from each division followed by the next best overall 4 squads will continue on to the bracket play.

For the first two rounds of the bracket, the player pairings will be the last two configurations of the pairings here:  http://www.printyourbrackets.com/10team … print.html

And then for the championship match we are still debating but it seems like a lot of people would like to have the captains submit the pairings and then we just randomly assign each pairing a number 1-5 for the face-off.

So that is the format we have so far.

Mike and I will let everyone know when the division drawings will be so everyone can tune in.

More exciting news to come but I don't want to spill the beans before anything is set in stone...

Wouldn't the captains also designate the pairing numbers?

Other than that everything looks great. Thanks for putting in all the work to put on this event!

What's the difference on that? If the captains did the numbering, they have no clue what the opposing captain is going to number their pairings so lets say Squad A decides to pair up their two best players together and assign that pairing #4 and then Squad B decides to pair their two strongest players and assign that pairing #2.  Whether the captains choose the numbering or we randomly assign the pairings numbers, it will be random either way. So why not save the captains the trouble and just let the computer do it?

Typically you put your teams in some sort of order in anticipation that the opposing team does the same. For example, that's how it's done in college tennis. This may not entirely apply to BoE, but it's usually more prestigious to play at the higher (#1, #2) spots.

You are definitely right though that the captains have the option of placing their #1 team at any spot they wish and that in the end it may end up the same as having a random computer draw.

In the end, I think it wouldn't take more time and it gives the captains a bit of extra control.

What I suggested in the other forum that most people liked for the finals was:

The captain would pick the 5 teams of 2
Ex for my team Farley could pair

    Tone & Neil
    Deep & me
    Vince & oneil
    Jimbo & Fraser
    Farley & shep

Or you could go with the strategy of stacking your top 3 teams and conceeding the last 2 since you only need 3 to win the series.
Also the captain would need to strategize on what order to send out your team.  Is winning game 1 the most important ????? Is having a solid team for game 5 important knowing that it might come down to them ?????  The pairings and roster would be done before the finals and then turned in.  Just adding a little fun and strategy.
Last year NJ went with the strategy of stacking our best 2 players and me and Frazer teamed up in game 1 and COMPLETELY CRASHED AND BURNED.  i barely knew Fraser and we never played together. We had zero chemistry and it showed.  I think Farley secretly is still mad at me to this day for our performance haha.
    Sorry again coach

  • Well Mike was supposed to send out about the tshirts but in case he didn't, I am letting everyone know on here. Spread the word to your captains, etc and have your captains email me everyone's sizes.  In order to get the shirts in time for BOE, I have to place the order by friday so please get it to me ASAP!
