  • I prefer playing with a nice pair of C cups.. Im jk. But anyways I was playing BP with some guys a few days ago and they were complaining that the cups we were playing with were "too small" lol. We were playing with the Get Bombed cups and balls.

Anyways here goes one of my bright ideas again lol.. What if the cups we played with were bigger and easier to make?? Like the size of Solo cups but still be WSOBP cups. For the new and casual players. If they are making cups more often and having a good time it should bring them back right?? For now we should make the game easier for everyone but fair at the same time. How is this one?? Better ehh?

  • i use to play with the 18oz. solo cups. they were the only kind i would buy because they are easier to make and they don't blend together (ie. clear cups). In June i started playing with 16oz. cups because that is the size they play with in all of the tourneys. (even local bars around here use 16oz. clear cups). Its just best to play with the smaller cups because it helps your accuracy and plus it is what's used outside of house parties.

I would say the old bpong cups/current get bombed cups are a great in between of the solos casual players are familiar with and the newest white "jizz" edition bpong cups elite player have become deadly accurate at.

I honestly don't think the current white cups are a good idea for bpong to continue with in the future.  Ive noticed new players at satellites complaining about the unforgiving cups.

I'm going to *assume* you have never been to a major tournament (WSOBP, WPT) outside of your local tournament. I agree that playing with the red solo's would inspire new players to com out and play because they are easier to hit, but there is a major draw back that the elite players will dominate that much more with a bigger target to hit.

WPT used red solo's in Atlantic City in 2009 and I have to tell you I was hitting 3-4 cup rebuttals (Mike Vit can attest to this haha) no problem because they were so big.

Bottom Line ---- Bigger Cups overall is worse for new players because dominant players will feel like they are shooting in to garbage pails.

Fair assumption lol. As a matter of fact i haven't even been to a local tournament yet haha. But i did go to AC in june.

And ya i thought about the dominant players being even more dominant. But think about this.. What are the chances that a casual team will play more than 3 top teams in the prelims?? In my prelims i only had to play 1 top team. We just happen to play like shit  for our other games haha.

So say a casual team plays 3 top teams and 9 casual teams. They lose to all 3 top teams and beat 8 of the 9 casual teams. They go 8-4 and move on to the final day. it will make them feel good about making it to the final day and it will definitely make them try harder and come back the next year.

In the end regardless of the size of the cup we all know the top 16 finishing teams teams will all be elite top teams anyways. So why not give us casual players some sort of hope!!! lol.

What does the number of top teams you play have to do with the cup size?  They way you're trying to explain it is that larger cups only increase shooting percentage for the elites.  If you go 8-4 on 18oz cups, you'd go 8-4 on 16oz cups, as well.  The only difference being, you might go 8-4 shooting 45% on 16oz cups, where you'd go 8-4 shooting 55% on 18oz cups.

I think that would ultimately drive the casual players away.  Most casual players think they shoot better than what they do.  If a casual player comes to a major tournament and go say 7-5 and miss Day 3, by shooting 45%, they would look at it as "These guys aren't that good, we just played bad.", and be more likely to come back to prove they're better than that.

But if they go 7-5 and miss Day 3 shooting 55%, they are more likely to get discouraged and not come back.  Get what I'm saying?
