  • play, yes. play well eh cant really vouch for that.

Honestly I dont get the whole double buyins for a satellite trend that started this year.  It originated from single elimination cash tourneys where a team buyin was 20, you get to buyin with people you usally wouldnt play with and is great for the local pong community.  Somehow this filtered into DOUBLE ELIM satellite tourneys.  It really kills a tourney IMO, the constant 1 on 1 games and the lame situations that can exist.  In a satellite last week the final matchup the losers bracket team would have had to beat the winners bracket  3 times to take the tourney. plus $45-$50 for a tourney buyin? come on thats OD.

I understand people running these satellites do not want to take a loss and double buyins are an easy way to cover it.  In the past if enough teams don't show up just change it into a cash tourney.  Unfortunately bpong is requiring whoever runs the tourney to buy the bid up front.  Support your local pongressman and VOTE NO on double buyins.

Ok here is my problem with multi buy ins....I don't think it's cool for one team or person to have twice the chances of winning just because they can afford to put more money into it. I like the idea of everyone having their fair chance, plus I personally love eliminating people from tournaments. So to knock someone out and have them do a Zombie apocalypse resurrection and have to play them again, bugs me.

Ok the second part was basically a joke....but the first reason is why I have generally steer away from multi buys. Im sorry. If your boys need partners, good partners I can find them some, but I'd really just suggest you bring four people, I know you have more than 3 people in your towns that play Beer Pong. lol.

    Here's a suggestion:

Do double elimination for $40 and triple elimination for $60 (or $55). If you do triple elimination you get to enter the same team twice and they get placed on opposite sides of the bracket. Once you first team loses it is out of the tournament (this creates a bye in the losers bracket). Your remaining teams playes the standard double elim. This format works out well because the only way you can face your other team is if both your teams make it to the winners bracket final.

  • i must say thats a smart idea wianek. im surprised no1 has said multi buy ins with different partners also sucks bc theres a lot of 1 on 1 games in the tournament which really isnt the point of playing a tourny and if u roll with 3 1 guy gets assed out.

ok but in the case both teams make it all the way to the end the losers bracket final winner would have to play them 3 times to win?

that would be me. lol  played in a wsobp satellite tourney last week with pop n deep as my partners. ended up facing deep heads up and beat him to knock him and pops one team outta the tourney, unforunately, they also had another team, which was allowed so the person running the tourney wouldnt lose money, and coincidentally that team made it to winners bracket finals and i had to beat deep 2 more times heads up to win the bid after already beating him once. needless to say i lost, prob mostly because u gotta have ur A game in full effect to beat deep 3 times headsup the same night. so much for my bid lol

You have two option of (i've seen both used):

    1) You have to take a loss with one of your teams in the winners bracket; hence, it is out of the tournament. This creates a bye in  the losers bracket final and the other team moves into the final. The advantage of this approach is that you are always guaranteed to have a final. The disadvantage is that the team that made it to the winners bracket final actually only gets 2 losses even though they paid for 3.

    2) One of your winners bracket teams gets placed in the losers bracket final. In this case the other team that was in the losers bracket would have to win 3 straight games against the same team to win the tourney. The advantage of this approach is that all teams that paid for 3 losses actually get them. The disadvantage is you may have the same two teams in the final, in which case it doesn't actually take place.

  • Whats up with the multiple buy ins and partner situation. I just think itd be easiest if you just said same partner with 2 buy ins to cover yourself for funds because we are only 10 days away. You just make 2 32team brackets double elim or split the 64 team bracket in 2. I enjoyed the way Raxx ran theres. It just makes it easier on everyone I think. Because if people can't find another partner they aren't gonna drive up there with only one...well I know I wouldn't. Im just saying the date is getting close and a decision needs to be made.

  • Ok...I really want to say no, because I hate multi buys, but I need a response here. If I do allow Multi buys how many more teams am I looking at having? Basically every one who is bringing a third person tell me or everyone tell me how many team are coming with them period then I can makea decision.

Id def recommend mutli buyin with a different partner.  It will put more money in your pocket to cover the bid.  I don't think there will be a situation where the amount of single buyins will cap making doublel buyins unable, whe're in Central NY.

On that note I won't be playing with my original partner, so im accepting applications for your 2nd buyin.  this could be a blockbuster acquisition bigger than CC Sabathia, act fast!
