  • I wanted some feed back from some of the west coast guys on the 5K tourny on April 3rd.
Is anyone familiar with the company that is hosting it?
I want to make sure its legit if I'm gonna make the trip.

Also where is Marana Ariz ?  what is the closest airport and best city to book a hotel if I do make the trip.

    Thanks

    -Kessler

  • it's a pongleague tournament. They run some KOTC qualifiers in the phoenix area. The tournament is most likely going to be outside. From what i've talked with stephen (dude who runs pongleague) it will be 5K to first and codes to kotc for like 2nd thru 6th.

the closest city is tucson. but i'm sure there are hotels in marana. It is about 1:45-2 hrs south of phoenix. i'm trying to convince him to move it inside but they want to do it outside.

  • Last year at the West Coast Clasic, which I believe Pongleague put on, the one day tournament took over 12 hours.  They slowed it down to get the bar tab up.  I'm too old to try to get drunk 3 different times in one day.

I'm just hoping you come out to tournaments still now that you're busy with that whole marriage and real life deal, let alone problems with the actual tournament logistics.

  • I'll talk to him we might be able to get a tent of some sort or something...last thing you need is a windy day to ruin it all....I understand it was a long day at west coast classic....he has learned from a lot of those things that happen at the wwc and has a lot of ambition and dedication to these next events...breakers and KOTC....before people start ripping the company and him look at what he has done and enjoy the spread of large events on the west coast and the spread of beer pong in general.

  • Hey guys,

The info on the Breakers 5k is posted on our site.  It will be outside, but typical weather in April in the middle of the desert has no wind.  Trust me when I say it's of utmost priority to provide the best playing atmosphere possible.  We want to move it inside, but the part accommodations won't allow it.  The best part about this tournament is there will be a good amount of money on the line and there will be thousands of college chicks in bikinis everywhere.  For those of you who aren't familiar with Arizona State and U of A girls, there are a lot of hot women running around those parts.  The event is hosted by a college party company that is expecting 3,500 - 4,000 people, which will be dj'd by Busta Rhymes.  It's a massive pool party and should be a lot of fun.

Hit us up if you have any other questions.  If you're from far out and are worried about flight prices, I would suggest waiting for the $25,000 King of the Cups tournament in September, which will have a $5,000 doubles tournament running on the same days at different times.  It will be a lot of Beer Pong with 30k on the line.  However, if you can manage both, I would say try to make it to the AZ event because it will be an awesome experience.

  • Boyd or whoever it concers, quick question online it says $50 a team but when I tried to sign up it was close to $70 a team like $66 or something, so just wanted to know why? Also does signing up for the tourney get you into the park or is that a separate cost?

  • i live in arizona and you really never know. there is usually some wind but it is very light. but when we're talking about a ping pong ball, a slight breeze will cause a serious dispute. if you can put up some tents, you should be able to block any breeze that will be going through.

but if you're coming in and want to make a good trip out of it...fly into phoenix (sky harbor) and go out in tempe or old town scottsdale friday night.
