  • Exactly what Piorti said.
I used to be terrible the first couple games because I had no drinks in me and got nervous shooting.  I would slam down 5-6 Red bull and Vodkas to make me less tense.
Now that I play just about every week rarely do I get nervous during a game.  I also think the better you get the more confident you become which also eliminates nerves.
In big games I will find myself drinking aggresively in between shots which I dont even realize I'm doing.  During my Finals series against Foster I drank 5 beers in about a 20 minute game and didnt even realize it until an hour later when I was feeling Nice and someone pointed it out to me.  All in all I'm better Sober with a few beers to ease the tention.

  • so it seems that no one is BETTER sober.  seems strange because if this were a bball free throw shooting competition I can't imagine that being the case.

If this were a bball free throw shooting competition with 50k on the line, I would still play better drinking. Take away the pressure, then yes, I would be fine sober. But with 50k on the line, beer does the trick.

I really don't think you would be better drinking at free throws.  I think it's because everyone has spent years playing pong while drinking they're accustomed to it.  Unless you regularly play basketball drunk I think you would suck.
