a lot of people get the mis-conception that gambling rules might be the reason you cant use beer. it is a health issue and you would have to check the health and regs code in that area to see if they allow it... most counties dont. good luck

    swarles.

There is no health issue if new cups are used for each game.

Like I said already, it is allowed in New Jersey.  Bars themselves, however, worry about the gambling aspect of things.  I know I personally have talked to bar owners/managers and one of their main concerns was the side gambling aspect that the beer pong crowd generates.

hahaha the new cup thing is'nt the only health aspect when a ball hits the ground just water isnt gonna clean all the germs off lol personally i couldnt give a shit im just saying thats why a lot of bars dont do beer, but if they do it in NJ the good for all you lucky guys that get to drink and play

The ball on the ground thing isn't really an issue in Jersey.  Most of the players here just don't miss.  And if they do all players have great reflexes and catch all misses (if any) before they hit the ground.

  • The beer in the cups issue isn't related to health or gambling, it's related to a concept that beer pong tournaments promote 'binge drinking'.  Also, it's illegal for a bar to FORCE you to drink.  Like if I walk into a bar and want water all night, they can't deny me.

You'd think having a rule making the drinking optional would cover that, but remember, the people who make laws don't really know what we're doing, they just figure it's a game where people drink, therefore it's bad.

In NY (and in MA) I actually think it's illegal, however a lot of places get away with it because, really...cops have better things to do than bust that up.  Baker and I have traveled the landscape, and seen it both ways.  Personally, I prefer beer, but water is no big deal, I understand it.

If you're new at running tourneys, and you aren't sure, use water.  Better safe than sorry.
