    Post subject: Official BoE Format?

  • OK, so I posted this in the old thread, but I feel like it will get lost in the abyss of posts about this. Sorry for starting a new thread about this, but I definitely have questions that need answers. I think a lot of people just skipped over the format because they either thought it would be somewhat the same as last year (like me) or they just didn't feel like reading it. Here's what I've read and what I've been told:

    - You only play 4 games for prelims. If you suck in those 4 games, have a nice long ride home.

    - You only have 1 partner the whole day. That takes all of the fun out of this tournament for me. Isn't the point to switch up your squads?

Once again, I could be wrong with this stuff, but I really need to know if this is the case. It's a long drive, and with this format it really doesn't seem worth it to me or anyone I've spoken to on other teams. I always look forward to BoE, but right now I'm not looking forward to it at all.

No offense Mike and Garrett, I know it's hard to please everyone, but this just seems a bit crazy to me. Just my 2¢.

    - If you do make the 2nd round, you have to cut 2 players off your team. So, even if you do WELL, you still have to bum out your buddy and tell him his day is over, but he can go play with the losers in sit-n-goes.

I think that the ultimate goal of this tourney should be for everyone who goes to have a good time. That being said, I'm not sure if only 4 prelimary matches are gonna get it done. Cutting out half of the field based on 4-7 prelim games, given the amount of travel everyones putting into it, just seems kind of odd. The goal of this tourney shouldn't be to see how quickly it can be run, most people I know are planning on this tourney being an all day type of affair anyway, so I'm not quite sure why a similar prelim structure like last year cant be used. Also do not agree with ONLY having one partner for prelims, kinda dejects from the whole team aspect this tourney is supposed to be run with.

I also had a nightmare last night that my squad drew Pops team, Farleys team, Midwest team, and Austins team in prelims, is there going to be a particular way the prelimary matchups are chosen? Because of the volatile structure of prelims that is planning on being used, (only 4-7 guaranteed games) it seems like prelim matchups are going to be everything, and i dont plan on driving a couple hours to receive an unfortunate prelim matchup while other squads we're better than are all playing against one another, and end up lucking out.

I say we go back to the drawing board in terms of prelims and understand that people who are making long trips aren't coming to have their fates rest on 4 games.

At least make all prelim matches 2/3 if people are only guaranteed 4 different matchups (thats at least double the games you're offering), and each of the prelim games SHOULD be played with a different partner for each

  • Potentially, with this format, we could take the 6 hours trip and I could end up just playing with Hulse, whom I play with every week and no one else for the entire day.

i might be able to tweak the prelim format to allow everyone to play with 2 different partners.  It will be tough, but I might be able to get it done.

  • I can understand not wanting this to run too long, but let's not forget, aside from the people driving many, many hours, there's even people spending the money to fly to this. I doubt they're going to get to BoE and just want it to be over with as quick as possible.

With the fact that we know what the rosters are, I would imagine we could determine the teams ahead of time. I don't know.

There are people going to this strictly because of the money, but there are also people who are going just because it's always a good time. A few people on my team have never been to BoE period. Going and possibly playing with 1 person 4 games and going home isn't fun and I wouldn't ever want to come back.

I'm not going to beat this to death. We will still come even if the format doesn't change, but it's really disappointing to me. With the lack of people voicing their opinion, aside from a select few, maybe I'm in the minority.

  • Please realize that when i talk about time, i am talking about it in a very relative sense.  This tournament will go all day.

  • Personally, to spend the time, money (which i dont have), and effort to make the trip all the way to Philly from Florida, I want to at least get some value on my investment. That doesn't mean that I am coming up just to compete for the cash, but to have a sick time with some of the best players on the planet. It isn't in my best interest to play a handful of games and be a spectator all day if things don't go according to plan. This is a mini vacation for me and I want to make sure it worth my while to make the trip. I agree with my teammate Baker that the prelims are a little underplayed and I think we both speak for the mass that maybe some adjustments need to be made in order to make this a more worthwhile event for everyone.

  • apparently we were misinformed about sitting 2 guys down.  Not happening

However, playing with the same guy every game kinda spoils the entire reason this is a cool thing.

Like, imagine I play with defo, i know we're on different squads, but please indulge me.

Here I am, off a 4 hour trip, most likely hung over, and now I gotta carry a 205 lb bag of worthless bat droppings (or guano, if you will) game after game like I'm hauling lumber for a living.  I mean, having to hit 8 cups a game would get old time after time, but it would be even tougher to keep track of his whereabouts considering he takes smoke breaks every 13 minutes like his cigarettes are gonna rot if they're not used by midnight.

I'm kidding, of course.  Much love defo....no homo.

In all seriousness, if it would solve things, I know i'd rather play with a few diff guys than the same one.  If you want, once the rosters are finalized, say we want to go 2 games per partner, Baker and I can draw it up and email Vit the results, so when we arrive, I already know ahead of time who i'm playing with.  Just a suggestion instead of just saying I don't like it.
