  • You might want to note that this will not be a satellite for the WPT 50K in Las Vegas next June.

Sam has made the decision (and it has been discussed here) to hold next June's 50K event at Resorts in AC.

This obviously will raise issues with part of the prize being airfare to Las Vegas.  I would strongly urge the host of this tournament to make it known to ALL participants that the prize will NOT be for entry in a Las Vegas tournament.

I guess you can still give away a flight to Las Vegas if you want, i mean i wouldn't turn that down if i won it.

But please inform the participants of the change to Atlantic City from Vegas before the tournament.  I would imagine most of the people that will be attending, if it is anything like the weekday crowd there, do not check these forums and will be ill informed.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but i can just foresee this as being a potential problem for you.

  • message from neil of WPT

    Hey guys,

We were going to wait a few more days to announce it, but once we told a few people, it was obviously going to leak to the forums. So here's the official news.

The WBPT $50k tourney WILL be moving back to Atlantic City.

Sincere apologies for changing the venue/location, We understand this may be viewed as poor marketing and not the highest level of professionalism, but  there were several reasons for the change back, and with such a sufficient amount of time before the event, we believe that the problems caused by the change will be minimal.

Reason 1, the people - The people have spoken, and we have listened. Nearly EVERY one of the players in our official satellites held (not 3rd party qualifiers) voted for AC. Every time we ask a player about Vegas, they complain about flying or traveling costs. 95% of our following comes from the east coast area, so why host our large scale event on the other side of the country?

Reason 2, Costs - Like i said before, AC's $25k tournament lost us money. After AC we looked at the costs and compared them to Vegas, we thought it financially impossible to have another event in AC. Now while we started to plan for Vegas, all these little costs and fees started popping up just like in AC. After speaking to casinos in both cities, our contact at Resorts explained to us that if we were willing to bring the event back there, that she would do everything in her power to lower the costs of rooms as well as knock off/cut down certain expenses (ball-room fees, Keg/corkage fees, etc). This time around we can get our beer right from the distributor!

Reason 3, BPONG - Like I stated in the last thread (bpong vs wpt) We Are competitors. If we host a large scale event in Vegas, 2nd in notoriety to the WSOBP, players are going to have to decide which event to attend. Obviously there will be players with the time/money/vacation time to go to Vegas twice a year, but there is a much larger percentage of players that will have to choose which one to attend - we dont want that to happen.  Instead of taking teams from each other, maybe we can help each other and share ideas/solutions to common issues in the beer pong world, which many are arising lately (multiple bids/players, future of beer pong, competitive pong vs recreational pong, etc.)

We understand that qualifiers have been ran in the west coast and midwest areas already. The teams that won will be compensated for the change. There were only a handful of qualifiers ran within driving distance of Vegas, and we will be in contact with those people.

Most of the comments here seemed to be in support of the change, we appreciate the feedback. Let me know if you guys have any other questions that I could address on behalf of  Sam, myself, and the World Beer Pong Tour.

Here is an article on the topic that will be on our website shortly:

The World Beer Pong Tour has always been a company that remains loyal to the fans. We have been inundated with hundreds of phone calls, emails, and discussions with pong players and the consensus is that you all would like to see an east coast tournament. We would like to proudly announce that we are moving the location of our 50K tournament back to Atlantic City at Resorts Hotel and Casino. We are an east coast based company and we want satisfy as many people as we can. We understand that this will upset some people, primarily the west coast teams that have won entries already. We will do our very best to accommodate you.

Another concern of the people is that you can not afford to pay the $399 entry fee to enter the tournament. We have a solution for you. We will soon be offering reduced pricing entry. This will NOT include your hotel stay. We suggest you find a few friends 4-6 and split the cost of the room. We have been in contact with Resorts and several other hotels to get a reduced room rate for you. There will only be a limited number of reduced entries as we need to cover the costs that are incurred in a $50,000 tournament.
