Post subject: Upcoming $5,000 Tournament in Philly

  • I wanted to let everyone know that I am helping Bing Bong run this one..
So expect to deal with me if you're leaning too far over the table on your quest for the 5k Cheerfully

But seriously, I've heard a lot about this place in my conversations with mike and the plans we have in store are a true cocktail for an amazing atmosphere and a killer tournament.

Not as exciting as some of the other stuff going on, but most of you probably know I've been recording my own stats for fun this past year. Given that I'm finally going to help run one of these I want to make my system available to anyone in the tournament.

See your skill level relative to the other pro's that day, but this is totally optional and just something you can do while your opponents are shooting to keep yourself busy or if you are interested. I will post more details later, but the program pulls like 30+ statistics that are a pretty cool way to see how much better you are than everyone else.

In any case, this could easily get over 100 teams with $5,000 on the line.
Only a month away I can't wait.  Very we!

The rules are posted on bing bong's site now, but a few details are still being added here and there. They're based on a rule set that bing bong previously developed.

The wording is that you have to release the ball before your hand crosses the  far tip of the triangle on the table. Violators are subject to a 1 cup pentalty at the discretion of staff, but I think it's just something there to prevent excessive chronic abuse.

  • As someone who found his shot prepping for the World Series, and ended up with a slight lean, I am a biased objector.

However, allowing tournament staff to subjectively determine the outcome of a game by removing cups arbitrarily takes away from the spirit of the game.  The point of the game is to hit cups, not to watch the other team and hope that they cross a line- then make a 'referee' take away their cups.  I was a fan of the World Series rules, which eliminated the need to have concern for what the other team is doing, so that you were free to worry about hitting cups.

  • i agree also because the world series rules were made to cut down people bitching about there elbow going over the table. i do understand this is a different tournament and there our going to be different rules but i really think they should be thought about a little bit more. because some judges our going to be different then other judges i really think its guna be tough to judge all of that

  • well travis you probably know I already agree with you, but if the rule stands or not you guys don't have to worry about a subject referee taking away your cups out of the blue or something stupid like that..

This is a pro tournament and everyone will be treated with respect. A judgement call for that kind of penalty wouldn't be made lightly, and only after being warned about your shot in the first place.

  • Personally I'm just not a fan of any rule that makes someone pull a cup from their own side without the other team hitting it, much less a rule that gives someone a reason to stop the game to complain to a ref.

  • noone has to worry about the rule if they dont violate it.  its not difficult for a roving judge to apply it fairly. I think some people dont like it because they dont want to adjust their stance for this tournament.

  • The WSOBP rules are the best.  I don't recall seeing anyone complain due to the lack of (bitchin') rules.  The minute you allow someone to have a rule that fuels their complaint---it will happen.  Some people are just sore losers and will start to play head games by bitching to the roving floor monitor when they are down cups.

To say that people should adjust their shot due to the competition being different makes no sense...The goal of the competition is to sink cups---NOT to enforce stupid rules....

I am not tall and by no means have long arms, but, to tell me I cant lean when someone who is 6' 3" has a better angle/trajectory advantage makes no sense either...

    Just my two cents
