  • On the topic of cups slipping around I have a question.  I recently participated in a WBPT event.  I  am the type of person that fixes cups for my opponents everytime they shoot.  I consider myself a nice guy actually doing it without having to be told.  However, this past event, while I was fixing cups after their first shot, their second player shot the ball at my hand and the cup had to be removed.  Do you think this rule should be changed, or should players continue to be penalized for being too nice?  Im not angry at having the cup taken away because apparently it was in the rules, im just curious as to thoughts on the rule.

That's a tough spot. I always wait for the cups to be fixed, and I too always fix the cups just out of habit. I guess for now on we'll have to just wait until they ask to fix them just to be sure. I've never seen that before nor have the thought of that being possible crossed my mind.

  • the typical rule is that your opponents have to ASK for the cups to be reracked.

If you just take the initiative to start touching the cups and moving things around during their shot, then yeah, that counts as a lost cup.

If they ASK for a rerack, or it's at a 6, 3..etc where reracks are mandatory, then they have to wait for you to finish otherwise their shot doesn't count - whether it went in or not the ball is forfeit.

  • That's pretty weak. I think that a team should have to wait until you are not making any contact with the cups.

I agree with this only in the case where the team shooting asks for a rerack.  If no rerack is taking place, or the shooting team did not ask for a cup to be replaced to its original position than the team fixing cups is at fault and a cup should be pulled.  This is an easy thing a lot of teams do to break the rhythm of a team that is shooting well.

  • Yea, actually that makes sense. Sort of like icing the kicker in the NFL. I guess it's just habit, if I see that cups aren't touching then I fix them up.

  • IMO, it's just part of the game so we just deal with it. Last week I must have hit the 4 back cups like 4 times in a few games and they kept on falling off. It got annoying but whatever, they still drank themPerfectly

  • In my opinion, even if cups slide out of place, you should not touch the cups at all unless the other team asks.

So in our rules, yes, you did get punished for "being nice." some players don't care if the cups aren't perfectly tight when you stick your hands over the cups for no reason, then yes you should lose a cup for goal tending.
