i think thats a good idea - a rollback seems necessary otherwise its going to be whoever gets to go first gets a huge advantage.

    This is not actually true.

If both players are 10% shooters, the player going first will win with a 50.49% probability. This probability rises as the shooting pcts rise as follows:

Shooting Pct      First shooters winning pct
    10%                     50.49%
    20%                     51.03%
    30%                     51.63%
    40%                     52.30%
    50%                     53.00%
    60%                     53.69%
    70%                     54.27%
    80%                     54.61%
    90%                     54.93%

This is fairly comparable to the win percentages for doubles (a little more lopsided, but not much).

  • one ball in a 1-on-1 game I feel screws up the rythem.

Id prefer keeping it exactly the way the current rules are which the majority of the people I play use or doing 2 balls no rollbacks.

Currently, the official WSOBP rules are geared specifically towards the main event, which of course is a doubles event.

I personally think that Single's games are different in nature than doubles games, and hereby propose a modified version of the rules.

The rules would be the same as the WSOBP rules in all respects other than the following exceptions:

    1) Each player would should *once*. I.e., one ball per side.

    2) There would be no rollbacks. I.e., you cannot hit more than one cup per turn.

    3) After the last cup is hit, there is still an opportunity for redemption. Under all circumstances, the redemption would be unlimited 1-ball shoot-till-you-miss.

    4) In the case of an overtime, the player to have hit last cup first starts with ball.

    Thoughts?

Yes, this is something we're working on. I'm in favor of a 256 person single-elim....

If you ask me, you don't want people getting in a "rythm" and hitting a hot streak during a 1vs.1 game. Plus that second shot is much easier to hit if you miss the first one since you can adjust. Also, I bet those probabilities would favor the player who shoots first more if you get two balls.

  • Personally I like playing w/ the 3 cup max rules 1v1 only because I feel it is more of an intense game.  When u have 3 cups left in front of u and the oposing person is shooting u know the game could b over on this turn.  W/ 1 ball u won't feel that pressure 2 hit a shot till the last cup? .......not a big deal...I wouldn't bitch about using 1 ball either.
