Currently, the official WSOBP rules are geared specifically towards the main event, which of course is a doubles event.

I personally think that Single's games are different in nature than doubles games, and hereby propose a modified version of the rules.

The rules would be the same as the WSOBP rules in all respects other than the following exceptions:

    1) Each player would should *once*. I.e., one ball per side.

    2) There would be no rollbacks. I.e., you cannot hit more than one cup per turn.

    3) After the last cup is hit, there is still an opportunity for redemption. Under all circumstances, the redemption would be unlimited 1-ball shoot-till-you-miss.

    4) In the case of an overtime, the player to have hit last cup first starts with ball.

    Thoughts?

  • well why not have a poll for 1 ball vs 2 seems up in the air but i believe a majority of the pongers agree 2 balls and a rollback is the best

  • I dont think players should shoot 2 balls in singles. As someone said before, you miss the first shot and its that much easier to make an adjustment and hit the second. Some players are nasty heads up players because of this but im not sure if it tests their skill as much as it tests their ability to adjust.  It's a complete different kind of game and should have a different set of rules. I like the rules you provided skinny, only thing id add maybe is 1 ball back.

  • I agree that one ball + one rollback is pretty weak, that set of rules should not even be discused. You should not be rewarded another shot for just sinking one. My vote would be for the one shot per side but I'll be signed up either way.

We've always played 1 ball, max of 2 (get a rollback if you make it), which lessens the huge streaks, but still places a lot of pressure on certain shots (to ensure a rollback).

I think one ball no rollbacks is a better option than 2 balls with a rollback.

I agree. I think Shoot one, make it get a rollback. max 2 balls per turn. Two balls is like playing doubles. This ISNT doubles.

  • What about the idea of having one shot with the chance to shoot 3 balls to make a MAX of 2 cups.

If you make a cup you get a chance to make that same cup again to earn a rollback.  I know it seems like it would be a bit odd, but it would solve the problem of allowing players the chance to miss their first shot and then be able to adjust and follow it up with a make.  It also rewards skill in the sense that a player must make 2 consecutive shots to earn the rollback.  In addition to that, it still gives a player that is behind the opportunity to comeback moreso than just shooting one ball per turn.

I'm not saying this is the definite solution, but it never hurts to get other ideas out in the open.
