  • I like 1 ball a turn it makes it a true heads up game and takes the streakiness out of play a bit...If you have 1 ball a turn the best pure shooter will win the tournament not the streakiest if that's even a word or spelled correctly.

But i think skinny is looking for rules for an event at the WS V....shoodnt be too many avg joes...

I'm not sure if you've been to the world series yet, but the majority of the players that participate are average Joe's...

Yeah I totally agree with this. Even though last year was my first WSOBP I would say that it's a solid 40/60 on Legit players there to take it down vs. People there just for the party and to get wasted...

Nope its gonna be my 1st showin...but i meant it in the way that i wouldnt think that the avg players that come out for fun will pay additional $$ to play in any other tournies........but i guess i may be wrong on that.

I still don't really get the point of the rollback - it's like getting rewarded for making 1 cup. Also, it will lead to more blowouts whenever you have a good player against an average player leading to the average players getting discouraged.

I think people are pushing for the 2 balls + rollback or the 1 ball + rollback because they are just so used to doubles rules. I used to use standard WS rules in singles as well, but then I started to feel like I was getting in too much of a groove with the extra balls every turn. For the most part (when you look at average players) a single player usually doesn't get to shoot 2 balls in one turn and even when they do it's only one player on the team.

The point of the rollback (if playing 1 ball + 1), is to emulate the rollback part of the doubles game, where you have pressure to hit one shot for the chance to take a second.  Perhaps the reward of hitting another cup is too high, but part of the reward is simply to be able to take another shot.

With 2 balls and a rollback, even if you don't make both, you still get 2 chances to find your shot and get in a groove.  You might miss the first, preventing a rollback, but you still get a warm up to hopefully get in a groove for the next turn.

I agree it's flawed - but it partially succeeds at disrupting the flow that you mentioned seemed wrong, where you get in too much of a groove when shooting 2 (or 3) every turn.

I still don't really get the point of the rollback - it's like getting rewarded for making 1 cup.

I'm not arguing for anything here, but in that case, why don't we go with two balls (i.e., two shots).  The second one doesn't count, but if you make the second one (which is only given if you make the first), you get a third shot.  In other words, 1 hit = 1 cup + another shot; 2 hits = 1 cup total + a third shot; 3 hits = 2 cups.

(I really don't know where I stand on this issue yet; I haven't had much time to give it much thought.)

This is very similar to what i was proposing.  Just with my way you have to make the same cup twice instead of hitting another random cup to earn the 3rd shot.  The more i think about it, the more i think it is a reasonable alternative to the "current" singles rules with 2 balls and one rollback.
