Post subject: how does each day work and cup dimensions

  • I just read the email sent to all the players right now. So I guess we start at 11 am, but does each game start every 30 minutes? So you play once at 11, once at 11:30, and onwards until your six games? How has it been in the past? Also, how does a 16 oz plastic red cup (the typical ones you can buy at any supermarket) compare to the ones played at the WSOBP. Those are clear plastic, compared to the red plastic. Whats the differences? Is one easier than the other? Thanks! See y'all in a couple of days.

  • Others, please correct me if i'm wrong.  My memory is slightly hazy... for obvious reasons.

Last year, the field was split into three groups.  Group A would play at 11:00, Group B 11:20, Group C 11:40, Group A at 12:00 and so on.  It may have been 30 min spots... i'm not sure.  That way, you get a chance to watch some other good teams, and also know when they are playing.  I.e. if your buddy is in Group B, you know he plays in the group right after you.

If your game goes over the time-limit, you get moved to the "practice square."  (very embarassing, and it almost happened to us last year, haha shhiot).  The convention center was split into 4 squares, each with about 25-30 tables, so that 75-100 games could be played simultaneously.  3 of the squares were for tournament games, the last one was the practice square where anyone could practice.  Two of my buddies who came last year but didn't compete played some cash games here during the tournament.

In terms of the cups, it seems to me that the WSOBP cups are slightly smaller in diameter, though they have slightly more "give."  There's more bounce ins than with red cups.  This subject is probably debated by different people however.

And yes, it is Christmas night and i'm on bpong.com because all i want for christmas is the fuckin world series to get here.  holla

you are much more patient than i am spencerhawes... btw, are you from sacramento? i don't know why you would have an obscure, overdrafted white boy who plays for the Kings as your screen name otherwise...

The format is the same for this year, although we have done away with explicitly creating 'groups'. You will play one game every hour, and it will still be the same part of the hour (i.e. at the start of the hour, at :20, or at :40).

There will be 3 squares this year, each with approximately 30 tables. All of the tables in the Sunset ballroom will be used for tournament games. There will be another room set aside as a practice room.

  • Yes i am from Sacramento.  Now I live in L.A.

And no, he was not overdrafted.  He is going to lead the Kings to the playoffs this year despite their 7-22 start.

And yes, he does look like Michael Phelps autistic love-child, but he is a damn smooth player.
