Post subject: Same name for 2 teams

  • In response to your post skinny:

I do not know if the other Team America that is signed up is from San Diego, that is merely speculation.  I do know that another team adopted that name and won a satellite here recently, I have checked into getting their info from Ronny who runs sdbp; he mentioned that he does not think they go by that name normally and it was a spur of the moment choice.  If it is in fact them I am willing to play a series for the name, but it is completely possible that the other team signed up for the WS is from elsewhere.  In this case the regional suffix would suffice.

On a different unrelated note, I feel it is a somewhat shortsighted point of view to declare that two teams signed up with the same name should just both change their names as it obviously means they are unoriginal.  Under this logic someone could sign up as Chauffeuring the Fat Kid or Pure Filth or We Own Your Face and under your logic they should both just change their names.  This would seem to be a poor interpretation to me, as the original team should keep its name (as they had it first).  Realistically, it doesn't seem to be that huge of a deal, I just feel that the opinion as stated may have a couple flaws.

Thank you for alerting us that the 1st is the proposed date to print off team names, I'm sure it will be worked out by then (or at worst it will stand as is).

Eric, don't worry if we play I'll be sure to let you know, hopefully if the other Team America is from around SD we can put some cash on it as well.  I'm thinking a best of 7 would be most fair.

  • Please keep in mind that I was being lighthearted in most of the things I was saying. I was also overgeneralizing on the issue of people coming up with generic names - every year we have at least a couple of duplicates. Frankly, we don't really care - we will let you do what you want with your team name, but we also reserve the right to make fun of you for your lack of creativity Well. Also, I'm really just giving my opinion that I wouldnt want to be on a team that has a generic name - I like the unique names myself (my personal all-time favorite is WSOBP I's "Back door equals no babies").

If someone were to copy the name of an existing team and we were asked to intervene, I think that we would disallow that. Specifically, if a team has used a certain name in past WSOBP's, we would grant them first dibs on that name for future WSOBP's. On that note, there was in fact a "Team America, Fuck Yeah!" in last years event. It does not appear that either of the members of that team a part of either of this year's Team America's, so that doesn't apply.

  • Apologies if  I didn't pick up on the lighthearted attitude, thank you for the response.  I can see why you particularly approve of unique team names (at the time we chose our name no one else had used it that I had heard of, we ourselves originally meant for it to be unique), especially funny ones.  I didn't realize that there was a team that used a similar name from wsobp III, although they would certainly have dibs on it if they wished (that much makes perfect sense to me).  It also seems like the correct course of action regarding if someone's team name got duplicated.  Hopefully it will all work out without too much more hassle.

Eric, I'd be more than down if Brian wasn't available (although I think he would very much want to defend the name as he thought of it and is quite partial to it).  We'll see how it all pans out, to this point I don't yet have the sd team's contact info, or any idea whom the duo is signed up for the ws.

  • A solid formula for any team name is to think of the dumbest and or gayest nickname you and your partner have ever been given and merge those 2 together. Just don't add the word "Team" to it preceding it. I hate that shit.

  • That does sound like a pretty solid formula actually.  Although it begs the question of whether someone called you "iron wizard" and your partner "coalition".  Perhaps you were just both deemed to be iron wizards?

Should we lose our current team name, however, I will take this formulaic process under advisement.  And I'm not joking in the slightest about using the formula should we have to change our team name.

  • Haha....no, it's even more retarded than that.

My partner was watching a Vitali Klitschko fight (hammered) and took a liking to his nickname - Dr Iron Fist. Ever since then, the idiot has been calling himself Dr IronRute (we refer to beer pong as beirut, the REAL name, haha).

About a week later, I was on a long streak of wins at a house party. Someone had some sort of fucking wizard staff with a skull on it and shit. So I grabbed the thing and started saying some sort of horseshit I can't remember, but I do remember referring to myself as a "bearded wizard". Fucking ridiculous.

Anyway, my partner then decided we should put the 2 together and started calling us the Iron Wizard Coalition. Now we can't change our retarded name because we've had it too long and it's what people know us by. I'd prefer to just be the IWC, haha.
