  • The first note, according to WSOBP rules, is that blowing is not permitted, so this situation should never arise.

Second, let's assume instead of blowing the person was going to remove the cup from the game.  In this case, if the other team shoots prematurely, and it goes in, it counts.  If, however, the other team shoots as the team is trying to remove the cup and the person's hand/arm gets in the way of the ball (during the person's attempt to remove the cup), then it's the fault of the shooting team for not waiting for the cup to be removed, and that shot counts as a missed shot.

In my opinion, it's a rude waste of people's time to ask for rule help when it's obvious you've never bothered to READ THE RULES.

Dude, you asked about blowing a ball out of a cup in accordance to WSOBP rules. Your question didn't even make sense, and I couldn't help but feel like if you had read the rules you would know that.

Billy did his best to answer anyway (he's that kind of guy), while noting that the situation could never even arise.

I'm not going onto an NBA board and asking what happens, according to NBA rules, if I'm going for a layup but a wheel accidently falls off one of my roller skates.

Sorry if you got offended, but it's not like I started calling you a dick or other names.

  • Blowing aside, lets say someone does try to pick up a cup that's been hit, and the other team does shoot prematurely. you say if the shot goes in it counts, but if it hits the arm of the player on the team taking the cup out, that it is the fault of the shooter and counts as any other miss would. But what happens if Shooter A hits a cup, Opponent A reaches to pick the cup up, Shooter B shoots prematurely and hits Opponent A in the arm and the ball ricochets off Opponent A's arm into the cup. Would that count, even if the shot was clearly not going to come close to the cups had it not hit Opponent A, who was only trying to follow the rules by taking the cup away?

I don't want to discourage people from asking questions - cause this is the right place to go.  But that was a good analogy right there... busted me up a bit reading it.

  • Well put. I suppose I was just looking for further clarification on the "game piece" designation -- i.e. what is in play and what isn't, because this sort of thing happens all the time. there's a rule for reracks -- the rerack is completed when both teams agree that it is, so that a player can't shoot while you're in the process of reracking -- so I'm just curious why there isn't say a stoppage of play rule after a cup has been hit until the cup is taken out of play.

  • there is....

if shooter A hits the first shot then its shooter B's job to realize his partner hit a cup and to wait for his/her opponents to remove the cup and set it aside and possibly give them the re rack if it is time.

    Hah, thanks.
I don't want to discourage people either, and I've spent a fair amount of time answering questions and trying to help people out.

I just felt like he was saying that his time was more important than billys, because he expects us to answer his questions but won't click on the "Rules" link and actually read.
