    Post subject: unifying the rules

  • ok so i just had this great idea for a possible way to get the world series rules to be more of the standard.

ok first off i know there will always be thousands of variations of the game and that is fine by me sometimes its fun to play party rules at what ever college you might be at BUT its a little annoying that every single party i goto where i propose WSOBP rules and people tell me they think they are terrible and they wont play by it.

now i know i know you guys are getting ready to type something like "they arent serious players and they arent worth the time" blah blah.  i think alot of this could be solved by simply trying to educate them, i remember thinking the WSOBP rules were kinda dumb when i first saw them until i heard explanations for some of the rules and played in a tourney with them, now i love them.

anyway my idea would be for as many of us WSOBP fourm members as possible to get several hundred print offs of the simple rule set for the WSOBP and spreading them around local universities and colleges.  and somewhere on the bottom have something that says something along the lines of "to find the entire rule set of the WSOBP and to get serious about your game visit www.bpong.com"  or something like that.

my only problem is i dont want this to be against university rules or anything.  i know (and dont care) that they wont like the fact that we are advertising beer pong.  i just dont want to be stopped by campus patrol for spreading around non-approved fliers or something like that.  anyone have any ideas for ways aroudnt his? or what general college policies are for fliers??

  • Strider, while I admire your intentions, flyers may not get out to people and like you said, run into the problem of them getting torn down like the next day.  The only way people will adopt the WSOB rules is if they knew about bpong.com and the World Series itself.  Once people know about this, a lot of people will want to come play at the World Series and will be forced to start playing by the WSOB rules if they want to have a shot at winning.  Or just have tournaments at bars near the universities that use the WSOB rules.  Back in college I tried to help a local website that just like a forum but let you post pics and shit.  Well the flyers barely worked cuz they were all gone by lunchtime the next day.  Good luck if you decide to spread the flyers though.

  • well yeah thats why i was thinking not just putting them up on like flier boards but like leaving stacks at the counters of stores and things like that of stores on the main road (here in Tempe its Mill Ave.), and i also wanted to modify the simple rule sheet so that it still showed the simply version of the rules and then had a mini advertisement for bpong.com at the bottom half and maybe a few details about the WSOBP like the chance to win $50,000 and the date etc...

  • In general, I'm liking the idea/motivation here.  I know we have some ideas ourselves, but we're just constantly stretching ourselves too thin as it is.  Among many other things, I've thought of making short video clips explaining the reasoning behind some of the rules; annotating the complete set of rules (for those that are patient enough to try to learn); etc.  Another thing I intend to do is create more professional, cleaner rules that people can download to create rule books.  We may even make posters with the main rules - I've always been against doing anything that says "THESE ARE THE RULES," but with The WSOBP, I don't have a problem saying "These are the official rules of The WSOBP."

I don't have any clear ways to really make all this work, as many people have the attitude of "if it isn't my way, it's gay."  (As I've always made clear, the rules we have were not even the rules by which we played the game in college - they were created after lots of careful thinking, discussion, arguing, etc.  Even then, I don't think they are still completely settled.)

  • The world series of beer pong rules are the best rules for a tournament, they make sure the rules are best set for the best team to win. Unfortunately, many people don't care about that and play with ridiculous blowing, fingering, and halves rules. I like your idea for having a flyer and posting it around to spread the word. If you could have one side be an advertisement for the world series IV and the other side have a list of rules, I think it'd be perfect. Being from AZ, I would suggest putting stacks in places like sneakers, the vine, and the sets. It would be nice to get more people to play rules that are more professional.

Also just curious, where do you play locally?

  • mostly house parties for the simple fact that most bars near us (12th st. and greenway) have stupid ass rules and the fact that i am broke right now Not so

i was at the sets for the satellite with my partner we are known as team "thats what she said" (i was the one in the sleeveless tuxedo shirt To you)

and yeah i was thinking as long as the fliers said they were the official WSOBP rules and also advertised all the greatness of the world series they could bring alot more people to it, open more peoples eyes to what it is really about, and also make a lot more people familiar with the rules.

  • "I think that is a great idea, and I will support it..."

(if anybody can name the character and movie that's from, you will have my props)

But yeah, I agree that it is a good idea if only to promote a more uniform rule set that can be known to the general public (if not used anyway).  I mean, when I say WSOBP rules and people say "What the fuck does THAT mean?" it's a lot harder to convince them to use said rules when they've never even heard of them before, you know?

I'm also down with some flyer distribution.  UNLV is a big campus...
