"Been around this game for a long time even though I haven't been able to make it to the WSOBP until this year because of other shit I had to do."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ key reason you will not do well at the world series....if it is your first year going it is a HUGE shock  when you have ALOT of people in your ear and your adrenaline going!

Id have to agree with him... the first tourny I played at in a bar with a bunch of people watching I actually got nervous and was ice cold for like the first half of our first game.  By the end of the tourny when we won it I was on fire and feeding on the pressure and sinking clutch shots... it all just depends how you deal with it but it was definitely a shock if you havent experienced a meaningful beer pong game, ive never gotten antsy over a beer pong game until then.

Whoa whoa, slow your roll.  Being the only decent team in NorCal, we often draw crowds in the tens of thousands that come to marvel at our awe-inspiring ability to throw a ball into a cup.  People bet thousands of dollars on single shots in our games, and I once promised little Timmy in the children's hospital, who said I was his favorite professional beer pong player, that I would win a tournament for him.  That is pressure.

Tom and I also brought some major game in the finals of the Dublin satellite, which was also held in the hardcore intimidating environment that you described as "a bar with a lot of people watching," most of whom were extremely hostile to our team because Tom was being Tom and I was wearing a goofy pirate outfit.

At the WSOBP, maybe the crowds will be a little bigger, but for once (hopefully) at least they won't be overwhelmingly and adamantly against us.  Besides, not everyone cracks under pressure - it helps some people step up their game to the next level.

  • I actually didn't want to say anything, because it's a little embarrassing but I am banned in 5 states from coming within 50 ft of a ping pong ball. It's taken a lot of therapy to really come to grips that these things aren't my fault... lets just say that my throw is deadly enough to kill a man within a 10 foot radius. It's usually not even intentional.

But then it came to that final game and my partner shit the bed *cough* made 0 or 1 shot can't remember lol.  Case in point we lost that game because just that once we lost the consistency.

total bullshit.  he should have shit the bed 2 games earlier & then it would have been me in the finals.  fuckers.  j/k

it is all about timing.  in OT of one game in that same tourney i hit 3 shots in a row, my partner hit 0, but we won.  losers finals, my partner missed once, and i couldn't hit shit, but ole j0schm03 up there wasn't missing - so we lost.  shit happens -  lol

  • I like how some of the guys are acting like their all tough and people are just ridiculous for saying they were actually nervous in a game of pong.

Come on.  Sure your not now, as a lot of us who play in tourneys all over, but you honestly weren't nervous your first game in a major tournament?

If not thats cool too, but it seems like everyone I've ever watched in their first tourney just doesn't play to par.  But then as things go on you get use to the pressure and I agree it actually makes me play better now, as it probably does a lot of people.

But I still think that all these new teams that are coming in saying their shooting 80% or whatever are gonna be shooting well below this the first game atleast at the series.

I don't believe half the percentages I'm reading in here lol.  I've seen a lot of the teams play at the series and I didn't witness these shooting percentages lol.

Yeah the first time is pretty nerve-racking.  My first WSOBP-style tourney was a SoCal BP satellite and the other guys there can attest to the fact that I was playing awfully and freaking out.  We lost one game early on, but then clutch play from my partner helped us tear through the losers' bracket and beat Chauffeuring the Fat Kid en route to the finals, where we proceeded to choke miserably and get our asses handed to us, denying us the promo codes.  We've gotten a lot more experience since then and should be ready - if we get nervous, a couple of beers can fix that.

Sometimes I'll get a little rattled early on if my shots are hitting the inner rim of the cup sometimes instead of just dropping straight into the beer every time or if I'm shooting really terribly (like 80%), but once I chug a pitcher or two of some high-gravity shit I am in the zone and usually rattle off 5-6 consecutive perfect games.

  • That's the great thing about beerpong.  There's always an abundant source of nerve killer haha.

It's always good to kill a pitcher before tournaments start.

I'm not attacking you guys BTW, I'm just pointing out that people have a tendency to exaggerate percentages.  Seen it a million times.  They pretty much always add 10-15%.  Been around this game for a long time even though I haven't been able to make it to the WSOBP until this year because of other shit I had to do.

Here at New York Beriut (beer pong).  I shoot 115%.. no exaggerations what so ever. I also shit gum drops, and I'm riding my flying horse to the WSOBP.
