  • I would agree with Foster, when keeping track of stats 50% is pretty damn good on average over time and high 50% are elite players. I definately think more than 1 team will be shooting better than 50% for the tournament overall and probably over 60% on last day for the winner. My partner and I kept track of stats over 12 games individually and a seperate 12 games as a team over the past two days simulating wsobp rules and shot 51% as a team and average of approx 60% individually ( I guess we need to work on our team chemistry). If the Ho's shot 65-70% I would suspect that they would have finished higher and probably won WSOBP2, WSOBP3, and the tightrack tournament last yr. It would be interesteing to see Smashing Times percentage, as I do think they are the best team out there right now and Pop is the best player right now.

Peter any idea what CTFK % is?

Also, this thing about first time playing in this atmosphere, I really think some people thrive under it and dont get nervous. Most probably get nervous though first time. If you have been to large satellite tourneys though you probably will be quite ok especially if you play a shitty team your first game.

or... if you get up in the morning and pack away a few drinks before the tournament starts at 11am then you won't even be thinking about nerves.  at least that's how i operated my first year at wsobp ii.

As someone who has not participated in past WSOBPs but is a true veteran of this great sport, let me let you in one one of my tried and true pre-game secrets: the motivational speech.  I'm not talking Matt Foley-esque van by the river shit.  You've got to stay positive and confident.

You stand in front of the mirror and say something like this to yourself:
"You, chief, are the greatest beer pong player who ever lived.  When you step up to the table, women faint and men begin to tremble for fear of their lives.  Your opponents will have to be playing the best games of their lives to even have a chance in hell of taking you down.  You were born to throw balls at cups.  You have no other talents in life.  This is all you do!  You WILL be standing there laughing while you hold that big check after you sink that last cup and send your opponents home penniless as they cry for their poor little children who needed that money just to have food on the table to eat every night.  King Kong ain't got shit on you!"

Then you chug a 40 of Old E and get your ass to business.

It doesn't need to be that dramatic, but you get the picture.  Even if you're a mediocre player (65-70% shooter), you must convince yourself that you are the best and will prevail in the end more often than not.

If you get down on yourself during the tourney, remember, it's just beer pong (or beirut or whatever).  It's not Russian roulette.  You'll live to fight another day.

No clue really.  We only take stats in leagues, which have been too few and far between, and they haven't been held anywhere close to CTFK.

  • I didn't get to chance to read the previous posts on this thread, but a great to way track stats is through www.pongtracker.com

Just started using it a couple weeks ago. Before using it I would track our team stats on paper just for each day that we practiced. Now we have a cumulative total for our shooting percentage. Just passed 1,000 shots the other day. There is no way I would ever want to track all that on paper. Check it out, you'll be cool.

I never said we shot that the last two years....it is amazing what  a year of practice and switching shots up does for ya

Damn it, I did not realize the Ho's were that good.  I guess that seals it then - they are going to win WSOBP IV.  I thought our 25-30% was good enough to take it down.  It is definitely good enough to dominate here in NorCal, where I have only seen maybe 2 or 3 three-cup turns happen in the last year.  I am bummed now that we are even wasting our time playing this year.
