  • a quick rundown its similar to the ryder cup.

I'll use Md  vs Ny as an example
both teams are put into a hat and 5 random partners are drawn for each state.
    They then play a best of 5 md1 vs ny , md2 vs ny2 ..... so on
The state that wins 3 of 5 get the win for their region and the states mix up partners and play another region IE  MD vs NJ
I am not sure how many rounds they plan on doing b/c the official format is not up.
Last year there was a round robin then the top 4 made it to the playoffs.

Brief explanation but I hope that helps
Look out for posts by Kessler , Mike V or Garret in the next couple of days.
One of them can probably answer any other questions

I could see why you'd think that considering Stephen owns njbpong.com

Why are the partners random? IMO it would make much more sense for each region to designate their #1,2,3,4, and 5 teams - it would add an increased element of team strategy to the event. Do you just match your top two individual players on the #1 team? Do you split them up? Do you keep any regular teams together in hope of team chemistry coming into play?

I can't think of any other event where teams are randomly matched together. For example in college tennis, they designate their #1,2, and 3 doubles teams (same goes for singles).

  • i think the purpose is to show depth. Obviously, we know Pop and Ron play rather well together. Whos to say Ron would play as well with someone else. If they don't and another random paired team does, I think it shows how well rounded the other squad is (or isn't).

We could certainly turn it into a regular tournament, selected teams, etc etc. But I don't think that helps show who is "The Beast of the East" - Pop and Ron would play together and win, that doesn't show how strong LI is. Vince and Andy could play together the whole time and win, that doesn't show how strong the mid west is....

at least, in my no-sleep thinking-state-of-mind, what I wrote above makes sense.

    Steve nailed it.

And we also can't be putting #s on people. There will be a bunch of butthurt guys walking around because they're the #3 team on their squad.

Furthermore, it's fun to play with someone new. And I think we forget that we're supposed to be having fun playing beer pong all too often. BoE last year was brutally long, but it was still a blast.

That's 1 game out of 5 that they are LIKELY to win, but not guaranteed. There are still 4 other games that determine the ultimate outcome of the match up, so you still need a deep team to win.

I disagree, if this is meant to be a TEAM event, you need to know how to be part of a team - that means being able to work with others and step down when necessary. If your butt is going to hurt because you are in the #3 spot, then you don't belong on a team to begin with.

Also, you could actually put your theoretically strongest team at say the #3 spot - it all comes down to strategy.
