  • At this moment there is around 332 teams signed up. If i remember correctly there was around 414 or 417 last year. Is this a result of a recession? Or is the fall of beer pong happening?

Will you guys be ok if no more teams were to sign up?

Am I over reacting too soon? haha

There are still 12 hours left to sign up. I'm guessing they will end up with ~450. Hopefully closer to 500.

  • I don't see Beer Pong as becoming less popular and causing a low amount of teams this year. I think it will break 400, I would be surprised it it didn't. I do however, feel the recession is killing it and people are having trouble shelling out for it. For teams that don't win a Satellite and have to pay, they might just opt out and not even go. Especially if it's first timers that have no idea how much fun they will really have...but here's hoping for a bum rush of teams in the next 11 or so hours...

  • I think it will be a little under 400.
I also think so many teams stepped up their game and at least here on the east coast there 5 or 6 teams that are the clear cut favorite and the average teams really dont have a shot.

I don't think average teams have had a shot since WS 1. People still got out because it's a blast.

    bingo.

i think it's still too early to speculate on how many teams will sign up.  there are probably a lot who are signing up today, and typically b/d/s has a number of teams which have sign-up issues too and won't get confirmed and show up on the board for a few days, maybe even a week.  at least this was the experience the past few years i believe.

  • The recession has definitely not helped.  Economy wasn't great in 12/08 either but there was a lot less unemployment in the months approaching 12/08 than approaching 12/09.  BDS might need to tweak a few things but even if there's a slight decline this year it's hardly an ominous sign.  It took the world series of poker TWELVE years before they had FIFTY TWO players.

This is definitely the case with not only me and my partner but also our 3 or 4 other teams I know.  It's hard to justify spending close to a grand with no job even if you are going to have a blast doing it.  Here's to next year!Alcohol
