  • This will be my second appearance at the World Series.  Last year i signed up after playing pong in my house with friends for 6 hours and thought it would be something fun to do.   The competition was intense and my team record was 6 & 6.  It was an awesome week and I made some new friends.  It was nothing like I expected and I believe most people don't understand how much fun it is or how well organized it is.  If you have never been before and your only experience is your local tournaments, some of which are very unorganized, then it can be a little difficult to justify spending that much money to go to Vegas and play in the big show.   I would not blow $1100 plus travel to go to an event that is a complete cluster fuck.  Thankfully the WSOBP is the most organized tournament int he country!

I also think when you have teams winning 6, 8 even ten or more Satellites in a region it disenfranchises people.  They go to all these tournaments and see the same people winning all the time.  If they feel they don't have a legitimate chance to win locally then they feel they have no chance on a national level and wont sign up for Vegas.   You can go to places like Detroit or Long Island were they same people always win and see less and less people showing up for tournaments.  In Cleveland there have been a lot of Satellites, in the beginning lots of people would show up but as the same people started winning every time the participation would start dropping off.  As an avid beer pong fan I enjoy playing good competition and know that these people can't win all the time.  The will loose eventually,  hopefully to my team, ( ha ha) but to the beginner or average player they get discouraged.  Once they stop going to local tournaments its really hard to get them to go to bigger ones.

I am sure the economy does have some affect on the situation right now and that is something out of the beer pong worlds control.  Its something we all have to ajust to and try to ride out. Remember its only the 5th year and its already a huge event!

No mater what I am excited about WSOBP V!!  Its going to be a great time!   See you all onthe 1st!!

  • Its the economy and its because of elite players.  Point blank, if something isnt done within the next few years to revolutionize beer pong, then the sport is dead. Sorry to be so frank but its true.Whats going to happen if things stay the way they are is the same guys are going to show up to tournaments over and over again and the number of  new teams who PAY for our way to vegas (and our car payments.. lol), is just going to decrease until there is no one left.

Though I agree that some new "real" players are discouraged when they are the best player in their frat/bar/whatever and they come to a satellite and blown out, I do think it is part of the ebb and flow of the beer pong population. That particular player will react in one of three ways: 1. Throw a tantrum, piss and moan about the rules, and never return,  2. Be pissed off but his ego says it was a fluke and come back to prove himself, or  3. Hate that he lost but loved how awesome the scene was and now he's in for life.

In all honesty, I'm glad the first kid left because I already have to hear enough pissing and moaning from a girlfriend to have to listen to that kid. There are plenty of others that have no clue in hell what this whole thing is about and that's why the supply of players will be endless. Times are tough, people are strapped for cash, and maybe there are other things people want to but with their disposable income.

I'm coming out for my third time and I am looking to make a run. With that said, I have plenty of other buddies that are just coming out to see what this is all about. Competitive beer pong is going to be around for a long time, so everyone relax and enjoy the neverending flow of donkeys to the game. Needed to fume to make me feel better about having to pull my third all-nighter in 4 days. Fuck you finals......

  • I'd like to think that the majority of teams are like my team.  We are going to the WSOBP for the 2nd year and its basically just an excuse to go to Vegas.  Sure we would love to win 50k but chances are slim, but I don't care.  I had an amazing time last year just playing, getting wasted and gambling in between games and partying hard at night.  If teams are coming to Vegas to strictly play beer pong, you're going to be sorely disappointed if you don't win.  The reason they have it in Vegas is because there is so much else to do and it is worth it to come play in the tournament even if you lose.
I think beer pong has become too competitive.  Do you remember what the point behind beer pong is?  Get drunk if you win and get drunk if you lose.... the point is to GET DRUNK and HAVE FUN!  Our team, which really isn't that bad, started out 0-4 on day 1 before winning the last 2 games.  By day 2 we already knew we were basically eliminated from getting into day 3.  We won 3 out of the first 5 games on day 2 and it came down to our last game.  The other team was 7-4 and if they were to beat us then they had the cup differential to make it to day 3.  They flipped me a 50 dollar chip and asked if they could bribe us.  Well first off, only 50 bucks? Thats 2 hands of black jack, no thanks.  Flipped them back their chip and beat them by 6 cups to give us a .500 average on the tourny and send them packing.  They got angry, didn't shake hands and ran off.  Douche bags like that deserve to have their dream ended Well  Well that was my favorite story of the beer pong part of last year.  Way too many fun stories about the rest of the time in Vegas.  Ok I guess I lost my thought and kind of rambled, oh well.  Have fun and get drunk!  Don't forget Cake Farts with a hooker my room one of the nights!

  • Ya we have the same kind of deal with our tournaments.  There's always that handful of 6-10 teams you know is going to take it down.  Which is cool.  But if you want the hot ladies to stick around and keep playing they like to feel like they have a chance to win. Sometimes we will form pools in pool play to make this happen. Get them some wins early and then when the tourney comes around they play the serious comp.   Lets face it....got to keep them around.  A room full of dudes is playing pong is cool but with the females partying down its that much better.

In the future the bpong guys may have to break up the series into divisions.  Pro and novice or something like that.  Then again how would you regulate such a thing. Probably offer a bigger prize for the pros and then give the Novice something also.

All in all these guys do a great job.  Bottom line if you can't put it in the cups then you probably shouldn't think about winning cash anyway,
